Description
You want medications not only to relieve pain but to prevent damage. The first line drugs and second line drugs are the two classifications. NSAIDs are first line drugs and treat the symptoms like swelling and inflammation in the joints. Side-effects can include nausea, diarrhea. Corticosteroids have shown a high success rate but have profound side-effects. DMARDS are second line drugs and work by modifying the immune system. DMARDS are slow acting and side-effects may include anemia and headaches. Biological response modifiers are the newest second-line treatment. They slow or halt progression of the disease by targeting specific proteins. Side-effects may include fever, weakness, diarrhea.
